October 6th is World Communion Sunday. Beginning in 1936, this day has been set apart for believers, across the globe, to celebrate Holy Communion as one body; a symbol of unity around the breaking of bread and the sharing of the cup. This year Community is going to embrace that idea and celebrate World Communion Sunday a bit differently than we have before.
On that Sunday, as a way to bring this body of Christ together, we will host two, identical worship services, 8:30am and 10:30am. These services will feature a duet between Diane Wright, our Minister of Traditional Worship and Joey Landstedt, our Minister of Contemporary Worship. We will also have members of our 9Thirty Band join the Chancel Choir to lead us as we raise our voices together. Both services will also conclude as we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion together. It will be amazing!
But we are not done there! After the 10:30am worship service, we are inviting everyone to come out to the Warren Willis Camp and Retreat Center for lunch and fun! The lunch will be a BBQ meal consisting of pulled pork sandwiches, chicken breast, cole slaw, baked beans, dessert, and a drink. The cost for the lunch is $10 a person or $30 for a family of four or more.
There are several way to purchase your plate:
- Place a check in the offering plate, payable to the church, write Church BBQ on the memo line, and include a note with the number attending and any food allergies.
- On Sunday September 29th, there will a table outside all three worship services, with people there to collect your donation and give you a save the date card for the event.
This is our chance to come together, to remember the connection we have as brothers and sisters in Christ, and to spend this important time with one another.
We hope you will make plans to join us as we celebrate our faith together.
