Thursday Thoughts

Tropical Storm Dorian approaching - At this time we are still planning to hold all three worship services this weekend, as it appears that Dorian will not hit Florida until Labor Day morning as a hurricane. We invite you to make sure that you are ready with your hurricane supplies just in case, keep watch on the storm tracking and join us in prayer for all who will be in the storm's path.

1. Sunday Morning Worship - This weekend Pastor Daryl continues our worship series entitled "Fully Family." This week we'll be examining the idea of "Single Strong" with the Scripture from Acts 16:11-15.

If you have a name tag, we want to encourage you to wear it to help CJ and his family put names and faces together!

Invite a friend to come with you this weekend. We'll be worshiping at 8am, 9:30am, and 11am. All are invited and all are welcome.

Midweek Moment

One of our conference initiatives spearheaded by Bishop Carter a few years ago was asking each church to create a partnership with a neighborhood school in their area. Fortunately for us, we already had a very long standing partnership and vibrant relationship with Fruitland Park Elementary next door. We host events for the school on our campus (like robotics tournaments and 5th grade graduation), provide supplies for teachers and students, develop mentoring relationships, as well provide tutoring and our Wonderful Wednesday program.

In 2015, an additional organization was formed in our area, Bless Fruitland Park. This groups is comprised of community churches and organizations with a heart for the school and its families. Each year a goal is set for a financial donation, and funds are raised, to be made to the school to help where the budget simply cannot. Over the last few years, FPE has used these funds to bring in the Orlando Science Center for STEM presentations, provide classroom science materials, provide academic incentive awards for students, purchase recess equipment, provide supplies for a new mentoring program, sponsor a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society, and other things as well.

Each year this drive has been held, we here at Community have stepped up and donated. This year we contributed $2,200 to their goal of $14,000. These monies came directly from our mission budget and we were able to present the principal with our check in worship at the 9Thirty service on August 18th.

This morning Pastor CJ, Pastor Daryl and I along with our Children’s Minister Faye Umble went over for the official big check presentation. Thanks to the wonderful generosity of so many churches, community groups and local businesses we exceeded this years’ goal and were able to present Mrs. Langley with a check for $16,366.02!

What an honor it was to partner with so many others to bring a bit of hope and love to the administration, staff, faculty, and students of the school. What a blessing and privilege it is to be a small part of this effort to help bless our local school. We're so thankful to be part of leading a church that lives up to its name and makes in impact in our local community!

I look forward to seeing you this weekend in worship!
Blessings,

Midweek Moment

Greetings, my friends!

Last Sunday, we launched our new church website and we are so excited about it! This is a place that many people will make their first contact with us. With that in mind we brought over all the information from our previous website and added some new elements.

One of the first things you will see on our homepage is a place for people that are new to Community United Methodist to plan their first visit with us. Here they will find information about our worship services and their times, what those services are like, and where to park.

We are also able to easily highlight important events happening in the life of our church and let people see at a glance all we have offer and how we are plugged into this community.

For our current family members, the menu bar at the top has a heading labeled, Member Info. There you will find our calendar, the archive of our recorded 11am services, lay leadership list, and a link for our weekly bulletins and monthly newsletters that is labeled Church Publications. From the menu bar, you will also find a place to connect to our Worship Live Streams, both 11am and 9:30am. Yes, you read that right! We are excited to announce that we will have the ability to live stream our 9:30am service in the upcoming weeks!

I hope you will take a moment to check it out, share the address with new folks, and invite people to read through it and see a bit about who we are as a community.

You can find all of this great information at our new website: communityumc.church

Have a great week and we will see you Sunday!
