Thursday Thoughts

1. Sunday Morning Worship - This week we will have a guest preacher in worship - the Rev. Dr. Clarke Campbell Evans from the Conference Office. Clarke is the Conference Director for Missional Engagement. He will be preaching about "The Models of Mission that Jesus Admires" from Luke 10:3, 21, 31-34, and 41-42.

Invite a friend to come with you this weekend. We'll be worshipping at 8am, 9:30am, and 11am. All are invited and all are welcome.

2. Charge Conference Results - The members of the church who attended Tuesday night's special called Charge Conference voted to approve the purchase of the "yellow house" located at 404 W. Fountain Street. The resolution authorized the chair of Trustees George Clive to negotiate the purchase on behalf of the church and the chair of Finance Mike Weer to work on the payment details, as we add this to a refinancing of our current building loan. Please keep the process in prayer as it moves forward.

3. Looking Ahead - Vacation Bible School Mark these dates on your calendar, June 17-21. That's when we will be celebrating ROAR! VBS at Community!!!! Beginning in May, Faye will be at the VBS table after each service to sign up children, volunteers, and answer questions. If you would like to register your children or grandchildren, or if you would like to signup to volunteer, you can do so online or by stopping at the church office to pick up a form. In the bulletin this week will also be a list of supplies and decorations that are still needed. If you are able to donate, or let us borrow, we would be grateful. This is an exciting time and a great opportunity for us to love on this community and the families that call it home! Have a great weekend and we will see you on Sunday!

4. Prayers for Pastor Loida's Family - Pastor Loida left for Honduras on Wednesday after her mother had another stroke this week. Please keep her and her mother Francisca in your prayers.

Have a great weekend and we know you will enjoy worship this Sunday!

Midweek Moment

It was beautiful last weekend to be part of the Rise Against Hunger meal packing event in our Family Life Center! This is a picture of what it means to be the church, all On Mission Together! We had about 80 people gathered to pack 20,000 meals - folks from all three different services and some people were friends of folks in the church that you brought with you. A big thank you to everyone who came out to make this event possible - and provide food AND hope to kids around the world.

Blessings,

Midweek Moment

Greetings my friends!

Last September we launched a new Thursday night worship service, Seven02. It was a vision we felt called to follow, and we have seen many faces come and be a part of it. This service was and is a calling. At its inception, we wanted it to always be whatever we felt God was calling for it to be. We wanted to be willing to change, adapt, and listen.

After conversations and prayers, we feel God is calling this service to a new phase. As such we are placing the service on a summer hiatus. We are taking that time to listen for God’s leading, imagine together, and get ready for a new iteration of Seven02 later this year.

We would ask that you be in prayer for this service and the people it will impact.

Take care,

Please contact the church office at 787-1829 or email the office by clicking here to RSVP. We hope to see you there!

3. Be In the Know! - One of the great things about Community is all the options and choices you have to help make disciples and build the Kingdom. And we want you to know about as many of them as possible. The best way to do that is for you to sign up for any of the various ways we have set up to communicate with you. Here is a list of them and how you can sign up or follow them:

  • Churchwide Email System - just call the church office to sign up or email us by clicking here
  • Pastor's Blog - you can find the blog by clicking here. Once you are there, bookmark it and you can even subscribe to have email updates of new posts sent to you automatically. The subscribe box is on the side underneath Pastor Debbie's Photo and Bio. Once you subscribe, don't forget to confirm that subscription by responding to the email you will receive, so the emails will start being delivered to you.
  • Our Church Website - you can find our new church website by clicking here. Don't forget to bookmark it once you are there.
  • Our Church Facebook Page - there are many updates, photos, and even Facebook Live Videos we post on this page, a great resource! You can find that page by clicking here
  • Our Church Instagram Page - where we host many pictures of church events showing how we are living out our faith in Fruitland Park and beyond. You can find that page by clicking here
  • Our Church Text Messaging Feature - get updates about the church sent to you via text message (text message and data rates may apply). You can sign up for that by sending the text message @cumcfp to the number 81010.
  • Our Church Publications - and as always you can find great information in our weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter.
I hope you will take advantage of as many of these avenues for communication as possible. There is a lot happening at Community and we do not want you to miss a thing!

Midweek Moment

Sunday was Announcement Sunday throughout United Methodist churches in the Florida Conference. It was announced in all our worship services this past weekend that Pastor Daryl and I  are being reappointed to Community for our 5th year of ministry among you. Our whole family is thrilled to be remaining in Fruitland Park and is excited to see what might be ahead for the church.  Pastor Loida got the opportunity to share with the congregation that she will be taking family leave starting June 17 in order to help care for her mother. This was a difficult decision for her to come to, but she feels a sense of peace in this change to help her family. We are praying for Pastor Loida in this new season of life and ministry. We will still be celebrating her ordination in June with a special party on Sunday June 9th after worship to congratulate her on her ordination and to send her off with our best wishes and love.

It was also announced on Sunday morning that the Rev. C.J. Hill will be coming to Community to be our new Associate Pastor of Discipleship and Missions. Pastor C.J. is an ordained elder in the Florida conference and over the last ten years has served churches in Jacksonville, Lakeland and Bonita Springs. He and his wife Amy have three children: Madeline, Tim, and Abby.  We invite you to pray for and reach out to them with a very warm welcome as they prepare to come and be part of our Community family in July.

Blessings,
