Thursday Thoughts

1. Sunday Morning Worship - This week we are continuing our preaching series called "Jargon Unchained." We're going to be taking some of the theological terms and church jargon and explain it all in a much easier to understand way. This week's term is "Sanctification" and Pastor Debbie will use Ephesians 4:17-24 to frame our time together.

Invite a friend and a neighbor and we hope to see you at 8am, 9:30am, or 11am! All are welcome, all are invited.

2. Best Wishes - Join us this Sunday as we honor our Minister of Youth, Sharon Quackenbush,  at the 9Thirty service. This will be her last Sunday with us and we want to wish her well as she heads off to graduate school.

Sharon has served our youth so faithfully over the last two years, and while she will be greatly missed, we are so excited for her and lives she will continue to shape in her new endeavors.

We love you, Sharon!

3. New Thursday Worship Service - We have launched a new worship experience on Thursdays this fall in the Family Life Center. That means it meets tonight! This Seven02 service (named after its start time!) is casual, contemporary, set up in the round and family friendly. It is geared towards a wide audience and has something for everyone.

Click here to listen to Pastor Daryl and Worship Leader Joey Landstedt sharing about the vision for this service. Come as you are, come from where you are, just come. Come and join us as we strive to be a part of something big!

4. Rise Against Hunger - You are invited to join us in our Family Life Center on Sunday, October 21st as we gather to pack 20,000 meals for children across the world. We will need about 10 people to meet us at 11:30am to set up the tables and we will need about 10 more people to stick around after the event to tear down. The event itself will require about 100 people to prepare the meals and pack them in boxes. There is a job for all ages and abilities. You will be amazed at how quickly we will pack those 20,000 meals as we do it in just a few hours. These meals feed children that otherwise may not eat. It is a wonderful outreach and we sure would love to have you be a part of it. There is no signup, we just ask you to show up. Mark your calendars and we hope to see you there!

5. A Way Forward - Our denomination is seeking a way to address the issue of human sexuality in the church. Our next information session is a Town Hall meeting scheduled for Sunday, October 7th at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary. All three pastors will be on hand to answer questions that were submitted around this topic. If you would like to submit a question, please email it by clicking here.

The General Conference of the United Methodist Church will meet next February to consider resolutions on church policy regarding this topic. If you would like to contact our representatives to General Conference, you can find their information by clicking here.

6. Super Charge Conference - Our annual Charge Conference is coming up soon. We will gather with all of the other United Methodist churches in our district for the first ever Super Charge Conference. This will be a time of worship and reflection on missions and ministries this past year. We will also look to the future and the ways we can impact our communities. We will go over reports and have a few votes that will need to be taken. It is open for all people to attend and all church members can vote. It will be held on October 20th, at New Covenant UMC, 3470 Woodridge Dr., in The Villages, beginning from 9am - 12pm. We hope to see you there as we represent Community UMC!

7. Pumpkin Patch - Our annual Pumpkin Patch is right around the corner and there are many ways in which you can help support this mission and fundraising endeavor. We are looking for people to help unload the pumpkins on October 13th at 11am, be storytellers, sell pumpkins in the patch, and set up and take down the patch. While this pumpkin patch does help raise funds for our youth and children's ministry, it is also a fantastic way to meet our neighbors and welcome them to our campus. You never know what seed might be planted or what prayer might be answered through our patch this year. We want to encourage you to pray about how you might be involved in this wonderful ministry. Call the church office if you are able to participate or you can sign up after worship on Sunday! Hope to see you out there!

Have a great weekend and we will see you Sunday!

Midweek Moment

Staff Parish is pleased to announce the hiring of Ms. Brianna Jimenez as our new Youth Minister. Bree, as she likes to be called, will start with us officially on October 1st.

Bree grew up in Lake Panasoffkee and graduated from South Sumter High School. She is currently a student at the College of Central Florida in Ocala. Bree is a mama to a furry child - her sweet dog Pepper.

Bree began sensing a call to ministry in high school while involved in her church's youth group and camping ministries. After working as a preschool teacher for a few years, she began working at New Covenant UMC in The Villages as the Children and Families Ministry Assistant. For the last three years she has been serving as the full-time Children's Minister there, responsible for weekly programming, two different after school programs and coordinating community outreach events. It was during this time that Bree sensed a calling to work with older students, based on her own youth ministry experiences, and the opportunities to go deeper in terms of teaching, discussions and relationships.

Several folks at Community might recognize Bree as she went on the mission trip to Honduras with Pastor Loida and our team last year. On that trip she was responsible for organizing the Vacation Bible School project.

Bree is very excited about being a part of our Community UMC family and getting connected to the students and their families in our youth program. Please help us welcome Bree to the staff!

Thursday Thoughts

1. Sunday Morning Worship - This week we are continuing our  preaching series called "Jargon Unchained." We're going to be taking some of the theological terms and church jargon and explain it all in a much easier to understand way. This week's term is "Justification" and Pastor Loida will be explaining that one based upon Galatians 2:19-21.

Invite a friend and a neighbor and we hope to see you at 8am, 9:30am, or 11am! All are welcome, all are invited.

2. CUMC Concert Series - The Music Ministry will host Mr. Justin Maxey on this Sunday September 23rd at 6pm in the Sanctuary. This concert will feature a blend of secular, classical, sacred and modern works on the organ. Justin is a native of Winder, Georgia and currently serves as organist at Roswell Presbyterian Church north of Atlanta. A love offering will be taken.

3. New Thursday Worship Service

We have launched a new worship experience on Thursdays this fall  in the Family Life Center starting in September. That means it meets tonight! This Seven02 service (named after its start time!) is casual, contemporary, set up in the round and family friendly. Click here to listen to Pastor Daryl and Worship Leader Joey Landstedt sharing about the vision for this service.

4. Wednesdays Began Again!!!! All of our normal Wednesday activities returned in September - Wonderful Wednesday, Wednesday Night Dinner and GROW Night classes. What a blessing to be together in fellowship over dinner and learning in small groups. It's not too late to join in - check the bulletin board outside the office for a list of classes!

5. We Need You! - We are in need of a few people to help on Sunday mornings.
  • The first way is with the tech aspects of worship at our 8am and 11am worship services. We will provide all the training, but we need people to help with the PowerPoint and soundboard operations during the services. These positions are very important to the flow and experience of worship and truly add to our time together.
  • The other area we are looking for people is to drive a golf cart helping transport people to and from our parking lots. This is often our first point of contact and is extremely important in helping people feel welcome.
If you are interested, please contact the church office by clicking here or calling us at (352) 787-1829. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

6. Be In the Know! - One of the great things about Community is all the options and choices you have to help make disciples and build the Kingdom. And we want you to know about as many of them as possible. The best way to do that is for you to sign up for any of the various ways we have set up to communicate with you. Here is a list of them and how you can sign up or follow them:

Midweek Moment

We just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you for all of your prayers these last couple of months during the illness of my dad, Wayne Allen, and your kind expressions of sympathy after his death this week.

Your love, prayers, cards, calls, messages and other thoughtful gestures have meant so much to me and to our family. We could not walk through this without your support. Your love toward us is deeply appreciate and will not soon be forgotten.

Right now we are taking each day as it comes and trusting in the truth of these verses:
"God draws close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." - Matthew 5:4

Blessings,

Midweek Moment

Staff Parish is pleased to announce that The Rev. John LeCain will start this week as the new Assistant Minister of Visitation here at Community UMC. John is a retired United Methodist minister who recently moved to Florida after serving as a local church pastor in the New York Annual Conference. John has an interesting religious background having grown up Roman Catholic, then spending years practicing Judaism before finding his spiritual home in the United Methodist Church. Before entering the ministry later in life, John owned and operated paper recycling facilities in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In ministry one of John's biggest passions was caring for people and he knows how important personal contact is in the healing process.

John is married to Diane Parette and together their blended family includes 2 daughters, 2 son-in-laws and 1 precious grandson. He and Diane already attend the 9Thirty worship service on Sunday mornings here at Community.

John is very excited about this opportunity to serve and get connected to Community. He is very warm and welcoming and gracious and everyone on the search committee felt that he had a presence that would fit in well with the visitation ministry, as well as the rest of the staff and the congregation.
