Thursday Thoughts

1. Sunday Worship - Come and join us this week as we continue our preaching series entitled Christianity 101. Over the next several weeks we will look at one of our most well known pieces of liturgy, the Apostles' Creed. This series will help us explore the basics of our faith as we go line by line through this Creed unpacking the wonderful mysteries and aspects of our faith. This week we will look to the phrase: "I believe in Jesus Christ, His Son our Lord" as Pastor Debbie looks at it through the lens of Matthew 16:13-16. Invite a friend and hope to see you all there!

2. New Associate Pastor of Adult Discipleship - On Sunday it was announced that we would be returning for another year as your senior co-pastors and that in July would be adding a new associate pastor of Adult Discipleship - Loida Divine. She is originally from Honduras and is bilingual. Loida will be graduating next month from Asbury Theological Seminary and will be commissioned as a provisional elder at Annual Conference in June. She and her husband Jim have served as missionaries in the past, and for the last three years she has served as the part-time pastor at churches in Altoona and Oxford. Her husband Jim is one of the pastors on staff at New Covenant UMC in The Villages and they have three grown children.

Please join us in praying for Loida in these months of transition and help us extend a warm Community welcome to her!

3. Volunteers Needed - As our church family grows so does the number of volunteers we need. We are asking each of you to consider volunteering for a few areas where we need more hands. One area is in our 8am and 11am services in the role of usher, sound tech, or computer operator. The other area is in our 9:30am service with the take down of the chairs. If you are interested and able to help, on a rotating basis, in any of these areas we would sure like to hear from you. You can contact the church office at 787-1829 or email us by clicking here.

Have a great weekend and we will see you Sunday!

Midweek Moment

Last Sunday afternoon we packed over 20,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now in the Family Life Center. We asked for 100 volunteers and in your generosity of service, we had 150 volunteers present to help out!!! All working together towards the same goal, we were able to pack all those meals in just a little over 90 minutes!

It was SO wonderful to see everyone of different ages and from different worship services working alongside one another. And the bigger blessing is of course that we we accomplished will make a tremendous difference in the lives of hungry children around the world.

It was a wonderful afternoon of working together in a great picture of what the Kingdom of God should look like! Many thanks to everyone who came out to help!

Blessings,

Midweek Moment

There are some very exciting things that have been happening around the church this week! The first item has to do with people! We are so thankful to our wonderful staff (especially LuAnn Haywood) and so many gracious volunteers who have pitched in over the last six weeks as we have been searching for a new church Office Manager. We are thrilled to announce that Ellen Lawless has joined the CUMC family as our newest staff member.

Ellen and her husband Greg recently moved to The Villages from Indianapolis, Indiana. Together they have five grown boys and several grandchildren. Ellen brings with her lots of great administrative experience from owning and operating her own business and for the last 11 years she served in various capacities on the administrative staff at East 91st Christian Church in Indianapolis.

Let us show her the grace and friendship that is part of our nature. I am sure you will find her warm hospitality and welcoming spirit inviting. Please join us in welcoming Ellen to the Community family. We are so glad that she is here!

The second piece of exciting news has to do with property. The demolition crew has been very busy at our new Rose Avenue piece of property and the house has been completely razed! Work is continuing in clearing the lot and preparing it for its next phase of life as additional church parking.

These are exciting days to be part of the Community UMC family. Please keep up the prayers for our shared ministry.

Blessings,
